MATHEMATICIAN RESEARCH PROJECT (Mrs. Rosborough - Grade 8)

In this project you will be conducting research on a famous mathematician, either in the past or in the present. You will pick a person and research his/her life and mathematical area of expertise using the Internet and the Library resources. The following information will be necessary for this research project.


1. The history of the mathematician’s life.

2. The area of mathematics for which the mathematician is famous.

3. A description of the area of mathematics, including an example of this math.

4. A description of where this mathematics is presently being used today. This will indicate what career(s) are using this mathematics and in what capacity.

5. A brief description of what was going on in the world during the time of this mathematician’s life. What other important events were happening, who else of importance was alive during this time, etc..


Your report should be in multi-paragraph form, include proper grammar and punctuation and spelling, and be typed. You will be presenting your information about your mathematician to the class and possibly to an audience of your parents and friends.

You will be given a grade for this project in Math, in Social Studies, in English, and in Keyboarding (if you are taking it this semester).

Extra credit will be given if you use a costume and props in your presentation.
