The following opinion was shared on a library list serve recently. To quote: "I think an appropriate response would be to go to the post office and purchase U.S. Savings bond. This puts some cash flow directly into our government, who will spend millions and millions with FBI agents seeking the identity of those who planned the deed, not to mention other costs associated with the clean-up. I can't imagine that we will leave NYC with the cost of the recovery of the bodies and removal of debris. To purchase a U.S. savings bond, one need a Social Security number (or a tax ID number if you are working under a green card). Many banks and
credit unions sell them. In the past, the post office also sold them but I am not sure it that is still true. The percentage of interest earned depends upon the length of time for
which you purchase the bond. You can also purchase them online at http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/td/tdintro.htm
