Welcome Kindergarten Kindergarten students learn many skills in the library. Listening skills are very important, so we always read a story during library class. As the story is read, the students are expected to practice listening skills that involve keeping eyes on the reader, being attentive and quiet, and sitting with legs criss-crossed and hands in the lap. Students are encouraged to answer questions asked to discuss the story that is read. We practice raising your hand to be called on during the discussion part of class. Each kindergarten student takes one book per week that is chosen during class after the story is completed. When a student forgets to return a book, the student must wait to borrow another book until that book is returned. We want kindergarten students to learn that books are exciting and wonderful. There is always a wide variety of age-appropriate books available for borrowing. We hope that the books that are borrowed can be enjoyed for the week at home by both the student and the parent. Reading with your child is great way to spend a little time together.
