Each class visits the library once a week.

Student books are due back on a 2 week cycle. Books can be renewed if a student is still reading a book. Students may renew a book up to 2 times unless another student is waiting for a book and then one renewal will be allowed.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students are allowed to check out 1 book at a time during their Library class time. Books for these grades are returned to each individual classroom and are picked up on the class library day.

2nd grade students may check out 2 books at a time during their library class or during Open Library times when their teacher allows them to come.

3rd grade students may check out 3 books at a time during their scheduled Book Exchange or during Open Library times when their teacher allows them to come.

4th grade students may check out 3 books daily up to a maximum of 4 books signed out in a student's name. The 4 book maximum includes books needed for research projects.

5th grade students may check out 3 books daily up to a maximum of 5 books signed out in a student's name. The 5 book maximum includes books needed for research projects.

Students in 2nd through 5th grades are welcome to return library books as soon as they are finished reading and do not need to wait until their library day to return books.

The library is open to students from 8:30 am to 2:50 pm, except for the lunch period of 11:50-12:20.

Accidents do happen that damage books and sometimes books do get misplaced. If a student has a book that has been damaged or lost, the book should be paid for in a timely manner. Payment should be made with a check written to Gananda Central School.

Overdue notices are issued every Friday to those students with books that are overdue.

Students with seriously overdue books will receive a bill for payment first and later a letter is sent home to parents requesting payment. Once a letter has been sent home library borrowing privileges are suspended until the book is found and returned or paid for at the library.
