Second Grade

Hello Second Grade Coming to the Library in Second Grade is much different than the experience in the first two years of school. Second graders learn new skills that make it possible for them to start using the entire library collection. After the first few weeks of school, training is given in the computer lab so that each second grader gets to work with the OPAC system (which is our online library catalog). When the training is over, these students are then able to begin searching on the computer for the books they would like to borrow. We have four OPAC search computers available in the library. Library classes are still organized for the second graders with a 30 minute class during which a variety of books are read and discussed. During this class time, students are allowed to find and check out two books at a time. This is also the first year that students are responsible for keeping track of the books borrowed and for returning them to the library. Returns can be made on the way to class in the morning, at any time the homeroom teacher allows, or at the beginning of the library class.
