Smart Schools Investment Plan
In November 2014, state voters approved funding of $794,133 for a Smart Schools initiative. From August 2015 until May 2016, the District's Technology Committee met to review the current state of technology use at Gananda Central Schools. In their review, they also established goals and future needs of technology throughout the district. Once their review was complete, they presented a preliminary plan for the Smart Schools Bond Act in order to obtain funding from New York State for technology upgrades. Districts are allowed to submit for approved funds multiple times.
The preliminary plan was approved by the Board of Education (BOE) on Wednesday, November 30 and has been submitted to New York State for approval. Upon approval, the district will purchase the items and receive reimbursements from the state.
The identified needs are:
- Bringing the core networking backbone to 10 Gb
- Increase access density for Wifi
- Access to Devices:
- Increase devices in the classrooms
The Preliminary Plan Costs include the following:
- Infrastructure: $247,000
- Network improvements: $132,000
- WiFi Access Points: $115,000
- Devices: $160,000
- Up to 400 devices/carts (1:1, 3-12): $160,000
