Gananda COVID-19 Protocols

Gananda Central School District is implementing the following based on both guidance from New York State and Wayne County Public Health through the end of the 2022-2023 school year:

1. Isolation and quarantine periods are 5 days.

 a. Day Zero is the first day of symptoms or the date tested, whichever comes first.
      1. Example 1: Shawn has symptoms on Saturday and tests positive on Sunday.  Saturday is Day 0, Sunday is Day 1 and Thursday is Day 5.  Shawn can return to school on Friday if his symptoms are resolving, he does not have a runny nose, and he has not had a temperature in 24 hours.
      2. Example 2: Shawn has no symptoms prior to testing positive on Sunday.  Sunday is Day 0, Monday is Day 1 and Friday is Day 5.  Shawn could return on Saturday if his symptoms are resolving, he does not have a runny nose, and he has not had a temperature in 24 hours.
Masking is required to be worn for days 6-10 after the 5-day isolation period ends.  Students or staff may return to school after isolating for 5 days as long as symptoms are improving and you are fever free for at least 24 hours. Masks must be worn in school on days 6-10 in order to return to school in person.

2. Testing positive in school.  If your child has tested positive, per NYS and CDC guidance, they should isolate for 5 days.  Gananda Central School District is saying your child can return to school in 5 days if their symptoms are resolving, they do not have a runny nose, and they have not had a temperature in 24 hours.
    1. A message will be sent via parent square initially with the positive test result as most parents are working and responding to the parent square messages.  Nurses will follow up via phone as deemed necessary by the school nurse.

3. When there is a positive case on a team, in a class or in a grade, unvaccinated individuals will not be automatically quarantined.  If there is more than one positive case on a team, in a class or in a grade level, we will consult with our school specialist to determine the need to quarantine groups, pause the team, or have a class or grade go remote temporarily.

4. If your child is sick (runny nose, fatigue, headache, sore throat, fever), PLEASE do not send them to school. Contact your child's school nurse.  If you have a negative or positive COVID-19 at home test, please send a picture of the test result along with your child's name and date of the test to the school nurse via ParentSquare.
