In February we sent an update indicating the District’s commitment to exploring and reflecting on implicit bias and diversity. Last Spring our ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) report highlighted the work needed to create a more equitable experience for our minority students. Results from the ESSA report showed that our minority students felt less connected to our schools, our teachers, and other students.
We are continuing to work on fostering a more supportive environment by exploring equity, diversity, and implicit bias. As we continue on this path of educating ourselves, all district staff will participate in professional training focused upon implicit bias on Friday, April 23 and Friday, May 14. Consequently, all students in the district (Pre-K through 12) will be learning remotely on both days.
We have several students attending programs outside of Gananda CSD that are in session on both Friday, April 23 and Friday, May 14. For planning purposes, we will assume students attending Private, Parochial, Special Education, BOCES, Wayne Tech and New Visions programs will need transportation to these programs on these days. All students attending outside programs will have transportation as normally scheduled. Our Wayne Tech and New Visions pickups will be at home and operate in the same manner as they do on Fridays.
