Qualifications of a Board Member
Per District Policy 2121 Board Member Qualifications, to be eligible to run for the
Board of Education, citizens must have been a resident of the district for a continuous
and uninterrupted period of 12 months, be able to read and write and be 18 years of
Age. Prospective candidates cannot be a member of a household of a current Board
member, and may not be a current employee of the school district.
Obtaining and Filing Nomination Petitions
Petitions to nominate a school board member are available starting Monday,
February 23, 2026 at the District Clerk’s office, 1366 Waterford Road, Walworth, NY.
The deadline for filing completed nomination petitions with the District Clerk is
Monday, April 20th at 5PM.
Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified district voters or 2% of
the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election of members of the
board of education, whichever is greater (§2018(a)). In our district, 25 signatures are
required. Each signature must include the residence address, within the school district, of the
signer, each signature must be in INK, all individuals must sign their legal name in
order for their signatures to be valid and accepted.
School Board Vacancies
School Board members are elected with “at-large” seats meaning if there are vacant
positions of different lengths, positions are filled in decreasing order of the number of
votes and length of office. Thus, the candidate with the highest number of votes is
entitled to the position of the longest length. The following vacancies are to be filled
in the upcoming election:
1 Three year term currently held by John Finnegan
1 Three year term currently held by Dr. Deborah Napolitano
