Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Gananda PROUD

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establish positive behavioral expectations and a supportive social culture for all students. The goal is to create an environment where appropriate behavior is the norm so that all students can achieve social, emotional and academic success.

PBIS is not new in education, however, it is a new district-wide approach for Gananda Central School District. Kicking off in the fall of 2017, all schools have behavioral expectations displayed for students throughout the halls, classrooms, and school busses. A simple phrase many in the community are already accustomed to, “Gananda Proud” is used on a daily basis to remind both students and staff to be PROUD each and every day - both in the classroom and outside of the classroom.  To be “Gananda Proud,” students and staff members display these five behaviors:

P - Practice Self Control

R - Respect

O - Outstanding

U - Unity

D - Driven

This framework engages both staff and students to develop and implement a shared sense of norms for student engagement in the classroom and encourages positive reinforcement amongst peers.  The overall purpose of PBIS is to improve social, emotional, and academic outcomes for all students within Gananda Central School District, thereby educating all students for success.

You may hear about PBIS several times a year as schools recognize students and staff for their PROUD behavior.  In addition, several district-wide events will be held throughout the year where all students will come together to celebrate unity.
