Greg Giles, Gananda Board of Education President
Greg Giles is in his third term on the Gananda Board of Education and currently serves as the Board President. He is retired from Kodak where he held management positions in human resources for various locations throughout the country and abroad including Rochester, California and China. Greg holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He is actively involved with the Board’s Policy, Student Achievement, Audit, and Technology Committees. Additionally, Greg serves on the 4-County School Board Association Board of Directors. In his spare time you can find him golfing, reading, listening to music, or playing duplicate bridge. His family consists of his wife Jolly Li, their child Jay, and their pet dog Cookie.
Greg explains why he chooses to volunteer on the Board: “My work life involved a lot of travel and I did not have the time for volunteer work. In my retirement, I’ve wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way.”
Patti Walker, Gananda Board of Education Vice-President
Patti Walker is in her second term on the Gananda Board of Education. She currently works as the Finance Office Manager for the Memorial Art Gallery as part of the University of Rochester where she has proudly served for 18 years. Patti holds an Associates Degree from Monroe Community College (MCC) in Accounting. She is actively involved with the Board’s Finance, Facilities, and Audit Committees. Patti served as the President of the Gananda PTSA from 2013-2016. Her family consists of her husband Don, their son Hunter, and their pet corn snake George.
Patti explains why she chooses to volunteer on the Board: “There is a need for community members to be involved with our school district. Attending BOE meetings allows one to hear the challenges Gananda faces. The more voices advocating for Gananda, the louder the message can be. After PTSA was dissolved, I wanted to continue understanding the challenges Gananda faces. This led me to running for a seat on BOE.”

Bill Buchko is in his fourth term on the Gananda Board of Education. He is the Director of Sales and Engineering for McAlpin Industries. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He is actively involved with the Board’s Community Relations Committee and the Student Achievement Committee. Additionally, Bill has served as the Legislative Chairman of the 4-County School Board Association. He also formerly volunteered with the Boy Scouts and helped coach youth sports. In his spare time you can find him boating, biking, hiking, or golfing. His family consists of his wife Laurie and their two children, Alex and Sydney, both graduates of Gananda Central School District.
“We continue to move the district forward in terms of serving all students and ensuring that we understand and help them develop their path to learning and growing. We have put many systems in place to make sure personalized learning and responding to the needs of our students is our first priority.” Bill explains what he is proud of accomplishing while being part of the Board.

Shauna Phillips is in her first term on the Gananda Board of Education. She holds a position in human resources at Wegmans Food Markets, a company she has proudly worked for over the last 26 years. Shauna holds a Bachelor Of Science degree from St. John Fisher University and has a Professional Human Resource Certification. She is actively involved with the Board’s Policy Committee and Community Relations Committee. She is a former Girl Scout Leader and volunteer for Cub Scouts. In her spare time you can find her reading, hiking, or spending time with her family including her husband Dax, three children, and their dog Lucy.
“With three children, one in each school, I am committed to assisting with increased communication between the district, the schools, and parents.” Shauna Phillips explains one of her current goals as a Board Member.
